Williams conquered the musical charts , Broadway , music videos , television , and motion pictures . And of course , she was crowned the first African- American Miss America in 1984 .
Williams ’ book , You Have No Idea , was released in 2012 .
Williams made a name for herself on Broadway , and was nominated for a Tony Award for “ Into the Woods ”. In addition , she received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her role in the ABC hit “ Ugly Betty ,” as well as five Grammy Award nominations for several # 1 singles .
