authentic Japanese culture, with presentations
like “Sensational Sushi” with Japanese restaurant
Fuji, artifacts from the Berman Museum like a
full suit of samurai armor and a dance party with
Japanese pop music serving as the soundtrack.
The event is open to all ages, and Westbrooks
encourages families to attend, especially those
with teenagers, who she says find themselves
caught up in learning about other cultures.
“They don’t have a way to connect with the culture in school,” said Westbrooks. “The fact that
there’s someone like them excites them so much
they’re driven to share their interest and start
studying on their own. Having that as an escape
is fantastic.”
AnniCon is April 11 from 10 AM - 10 PM at the
Anniston Meeting Center, 1615 Noble Street.
Admission is free. Visit www.annicon.com for
