Art INSIGHT her son from touching a painting in a tent] So what’s going on here? This is cool. I do a few festivals a year. This is taken from a picture I took in my tent, this girl and this was actually a real boy. She’s there with these two huge drinks and her boy is just wanting to touch everything, and I don’t care. Most artists would grumble but I don’t care, he’s having fun. She’s trying to keep him from doing it, so I snapped a picture and thought it would make a great painting. I like that you’ve got the figure in the painting actually reaching back out to the kid. What kind of statement do you try to make with the stuff you make? No statements, really. I like for people to look at it and be able to come up with a story for what’s going on. You’re not trying to say anything? Just exorcising my personal demons, really. Like what? Quickly. [laughs] You get that a lot? I do, especially locally. Birmingham’s fine, Huntsville’s fine, but do a show in Gadsden… Drugs, alcohol, sex and violence. I don’t see a lot of objectionable content here. All the good stuff. It’s the girls. [laughs] Really? But they’re cartoony. What stands out as the favorite thing you’ve had someone say about your art? That and skulls and flames. All that stuff together. Nothing really stands out. The same stuff that’s been pissing parents off for decades. What about the worst thing? The worst thing is like, when the kids are in there and really digging it and their mom and dad walk in and usher them away. 30 Nothing new there! ✤ Check out Scotty’s work by visiting him online at neuroblast.webs.com.
