Filmed across various locations in West Sussex , The Last Boy is a sci-fi feature film starring Bros star and applauded film actor , Luke Goss , and written , produced and directed by Perry Bhandal . The film is set in a world at an end and follows the journey of a young boy sent by his dying mother on a quest to find the place that grants wishes . Polly Humphris spoke to director , Perry Bhandal to find out more .
Hi Perry . Tell us about what inspired The Last Boy ? How our human relationships would change if there was no one left on the planet and if we as a species are fit custodians of our precious planet , are premises that I have wanted to explore for a long time .
So , why Luke Goss ? I cast Luke because , simply speaking , I think he ’ s one of the best actors working right now . His performance in Interview with a Hitman ( a 2012 Bhandal / Goss collaboration ) was universally lauded . Sometimes you get director / actor combinations that just work ; the trust and faith is just there . I have to say I thought Luke was amazing in Interview with a Hitman , but as the sniper , Jay , in The Last Boy , he ’ s taken it to another level . It was an easy choice to make and I ’ m pleased he chose to join me on another journey , especially one so different from our first film together .
Can you tell us more about some other cast members ? I felt very proud to have Peter Guinness join us . Peter is an actor I ’ ve admired for years and to work with someone with such gravitas and such a gift for the art was a pleasure . His portrayal of the priest was nothing short of exhilarating and I look forward to working with him again in the future . Anna Wilson Jones , who plays the priest ’ s divided matriarch , Jenna , was a revelation . Her nuanced performance perfectly complemented Peter ’ s .
What can I say about our two younger cast members , Flynn Allen , who plays the lead , Sira , and Matilda Freeman , who plays Lilly ? They were simply brilliant . It ’ s very rare to find two young gifted actors and it ’ s safe to say that the film would not have gone ahead if I had not been able to find these two remarkable performers ; I could say so much more but will let the film speak for itself .
