Where last month was all about the arts – the creative lifeblood that flows through Sussex cleansing mind , body and soul – this month , culture has taken a firm backseat and our concerns have been less about mind and soul , and much more about what ’ s on our plates , or filling our bowls – welcome to the food issue !
That said , food – and drink – is a huge part of our culture , of course ; especially locally : Sussex has an exceptional array of wonderful restaurants , pubs and bars that embrace all manner of influence and inspiration , and we ’ ve delved into as many as we can . Head to p44 and read all about my exceptional lunch at The Crab & Lobster in Sidlesham – beautiful food that tasted even better than it looked ; flick to p35 to discover where to find fragrant south Indian cuisine on the busy streets of Brighton ; and plan for a fair few weekends ’ eating and drinking with our ultimate Sussex pub crawl , a 7-page guide introducing 20 of the wonderful watering holes that our county lays claim to ( p37 ).

As it ’ s June , I feel confident enough to proclaim that summer is , in fact , on its way … and not just passing as it did that early weekend in May when those of us lucky enough to live by the sea ran with gusto to the beach and got our BBQ on .
