Christmas is the season of goodwill, so how
better to prove that old adage than to give the
gift of charity this year? Not only does a gift like
this give something back to the charity itself, but
it is also something for your friends and family
to enjoy, to give them an insight into a cause
that is close to your heart, and in some cases it
is something that will actually help someone a
lot further away from home in a much more literal
way. It’s not about the amount of money you
give to charity, it’s about the thought that goes
into it, and the amazing results that are able to
happen because you have.
Take a look at these fantastic charities and
how they are making alternative gift giving a dingdong merrily good idea!
Unicef
With Unicef there are dozens of different charity
gifts you can choose from, and each one, from
the bicycle that means a little girl can now get
to school, to the bowl of porridge given to a
starving child, makes a huge impact on the lives
of children.
A gift from Unicef is sustainable, waste
free, and ongoing, meaning that one Christmas
present can last for many years to come; what
other gifts can truly be that useful and that
thoughtful? Once you have chosen your gift, you
can create a personalised card or e-greeting to
give to the recipient so that they know exactly
what you’ve bought, and who it’s helping.
Gifts include:
• Help Deliver a Baby (provide midwifery
equipment to deliver a baby with this eco gift):
£27.50
• 5,000 Water Purification Tablets: £21
• Chalk Boards for 100 Children: £16
• Nursery In A Box: £145
• Heat a classroom for Syrian children: £105

Save The Children
Save the Children works in 120 countries across
the world, saving young lives, fighting for
children’s lives, and helping them fulfil their
potential. It’s a hard task – some might say
impossible – and yet selfless people are out there
every day doing these things to help. And you
can help too. Use the Save The Children’s online
wishlist to pick a much needed item to send to
those poor children, and in return you’ll be able
to give your recipient a beautiful card detailing
exactly what you have donated on their behalf,
and exactly how it will help in the everyday lives
of children who need that help the most.
Plus, until 31st December, whenever you
purchase a Wishlist item, the UK government
will match your donation pound for pound up to
£5 million. That means your gift will have double
the value and enable Save The Children to do
twice as much at no extra cost to you.
Gifts include:
• Shoes (in many countries, shoes are an
expensive luxury. Many schools make footwear
compulsory, so not having shoes can stop a
child receiving an education): £10
• Tree Saplings (when it grows into a fruit tree,
the family will have nutritious food and can sell
spare produce at the market. The fruit from
four trees alone can raise enough money to
help a child through an entire school term):
£12
• Teacher’s Kit (everything a teacher needs for
their lessons. This kit includes chalk, crayons,
erasers, notebooks and pencils – enough to
teach 50 children for three whole months. Even
