EDUCATION
The extraodinary Bede’s
Bede’s is an independent, co-educational school located on two stunning sites, one by the sea in
Eastbourne and the other in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
Nestled on a cliff top above Beachy Head,
with stunning views of the sea, children come
from across Sussex, Surrey and Kent to
enjoy innovation in the classroom, expansive
opportunities outside of it and outstanding care
in every aspect of school life.
At 13, pupils move up to Bede’s Senior
School where they are joined by pupils from
a range of feeder schools across the South
of England and the Home Counties. Situated
across 140 beautiful acres of the Sussex
Downs and with a student roll of 750, over 300
Bede’s students board at one of the School’s
five stunning boarding houses which were
recently recognised by the Institute of Chartered
Surveyors for their Outstanding Design and
Innovation. Bede’s also has an extensive bus
service for day pupils, with those who choose
to stay onsite into the evening enjoying late bus
options.
Since the appointment of Headmaster Dr
Richard Maloney in 2009, who was recognised
by The Daily Telegraph in June 2014 as one
of the UK’s ‘Top 10 Heads to Watch’, and
bolstered by a partnership with Kings College
London, Bede’s has enjoyed five successive
years of record-breaking GCSE and A Level
results yet remains determined to not topslice its intake. Instead, the School values
personality, character and endeavour.
With a reputation for peerless pastoral
care, the School’s belief in holistic education
sees pupils enabled to pursue passions
personal to them, choosing from over 140
after school activities each week including
computer programming, spray sailing, The Duke
of Edinburgh Award Scheme and the Bede’s
Zoological Society, which sees pupils breeding
endangered species in the School’s unique
Animal Management Unit.
Budding sportspeople at Bede’s enjoy
outstanding facilities including a Sports
Complex which boasts an 8-court sports hall,
Fitness Suite, four squash courts and swimming
pool. Elsewhere the campus also includes a
5-hole practise golf course, 12 outdoor sports
pitches, a cutting-edge multi-use games
area and one of only four international
standard water-based hockey pitches in
the United Kingdom.
A school where every pupil is truly
treated as an individual, Bede’s prides itself on
educating not only for success in the material
sense but in ways which empower young
people to flourish meaningfully, as rounded
human beings.
