Liverpool against all odds reached the Champions League final losing out to Real Madrid in an exciting final in Kiev. Manchester reached 100 as they were crowned Premier League Champions losing just two games in the competition throughout the season, seeing off long standing records. The FA Cup Final saw Chelsea beat Manchester United thanks to a well converted penalty from midfielder Eden Hazard. In February the World Track Cycling Championships held in the Netherlands did not disap- point, the Dutch taking the overall crown on home turf much to the delight of viewing fans. Scott Katie Archibald brought home the Madison title as she remained dominant through the course of the event. The men’s team pursuit and sprint teams notably pick- ing up medals. Ronnie O’Sullivan remained on top of the Snookering World winning 11 titles overall from 2018 to the start of this year. His dominance has seen him become the best Snooker play- er of all time. Novack Djokovic saw off Kevin Anderson within 3 sets to claim the men single’s title at Wimbledon, the Wom- en’s title was awarded to Ger- man Angelique Kerber who beat American Serena Williams in straight sets. Moving on to the Sporting events taking place this year it’s a big year for Rugby as Japan will be hosting the sport’s World Cup. The 2019 Rugby World Cup, the 9th to be held, will be contested in Japan. This will be the first time this tournament is to be held in Asia. Hong Kong and Singa- pore are also expected to host some of the matches. Wales who are currently unbeaten in 9 match- es look worthy competitors for the trophy holding s great run of form. However Ireland who have recent- ly overcome New Zealand and South Africa could cause an upset if the top team’ results slip up. The Cricket World Cup comes to Eng- land, the fifth time it has been held here. It has previously hosted matches in 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999. Will the home nation be able to bring the Cup home?
