The Marquis at Alkham
The Marquis at Alkham is an utterly unique and distinctive small hotel and
restaurant offering boutique style luxury accommodation in the heart of the
English countryside. The styling is contemporary. The décor is chic. But look
outside the window, and you couldn’t be anywhere else but England.
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty less than 10 miles away from the Port
of Dover and the Channel Tunnel, ideal for business and perfect for pleasure,
this establishment is both an upmarket restaurant and luxurious hotel.
There are designer bedrooms, plus accommodation in two Cottages at the
restaurant’s nearby sister business, the Chalksole Estate Vineyard which is our
latest venture - the addition of a vineyard a short stroll from the restaurant. Our
sparkling wine – Chalksole Estate Sparkling Reserve – bottled in Chapel Down
vineyards is taking everyone by surprise.
Contemporary, locally sourced cuisines, right in the heart of the village, there is
a terrace and garden serving up views over the Alkham Valley and once inside
expect whitewashed walls broken up with splashes of modern art, wooden
floors, stylish furnishing, classy fabrics and subtle lighting.
Head Chef Andrew King presides over heavenly menus that change regularly
and use locally caught fish and locally sourced produce, all this is to provide you
with a fine dining experience to remember. The à la carte menu and Kentish
four course tasting menus are available seven nights a week with prices from
£35 per head.
For the full gastronomic experience, choose the seven course tasting menu
(must be pre-booked) along with carefully selected wines to complement each
dish. The lunch menu is av ailable from £14.95 per head Monday – Saturday and
includes a good choice of à la carte dishes, and a traditional Sunday roast menu
is available on Sundays from 12pm – 3pm.
Previous sample dishes include: south coast whiting with a peanut and tarragon
crust, pickled cucumber, beetroot and wasabi followed by Church Farm hogget
and apricot pithivier, dauphinoise potatoes, cavolo nero and rosemary jus,
finishing with rhubarb three ways.
Groups of up to 20 can be accommodated in the private dining room for
intimate celebrations and small events with family, friends or associates.
