The Ferry House Inn
The Ferry House Inn is a charming 16th Century pub with restaurant
and 4* rooms, tucked away in an idyllic ‘secret’ spot alongside the
Thames Estuary. Sitting amongst rolling farmland and renowned
bird & nature reserves, the views across the water and countryside
are unrivalled.
A FAMILY AFFAIR
Mavis Burden began a legacy of good quality home cooked food
when the family bought the inn 14 years ago, and later passed the
reins to youngest son Alex. Alex runs the Ferry House alongside his
wife and dedicated team of staff, who have made the Inn a
must-visit place for Island visitors as well as a popular wedding
venue.

“The provenance of our food has always been important – well
before it became ‘trendy’! We farm our own beef and shoot our own
game for both our restaurant/pub and wedding menu’s. Lamb is
supplied from our Uncles farm at Detling, and in 2012 we began our
own kitchen garden. Serving local produce to us doesn’t just mean
supporting the local community. It drives the passion behind our
business, from the Head chef selecting and cooking the best
available ingredients, to the young waiter who is proud to put it
down in front of a customer and tell them it is Kentish fare, from a
farm he has visited as part of our ‘get involved’ attitude to food
knowledge.”

ACHIEVEMENTS
In 2014 The Ferry House Inn proudly took the accolade of “Best
Dining Pub of the Year” in the Taste of Kent Awards. Comments
from the judges:
“The winner is Kent to its core, local everything from cider to the
cows grazing in the surrounding land, served with top end personal
service by staff whose knowledge of the local area was as if they
were born and raised there. Quite simply the best all round
experience shouting Kent.”
NOT JUST A PUB
The Ferry House Inn hosts around 60-70 weddings a year, from 20 –
200 guests in our barn, garden, or marquee setting. With B&B and
cottage accommodation for up to 50 guests, the Inn has become a
great destination to enjoy special occasions for guests looking for
4* luxury in a friendly country setting.
