WELCOME
The writing of my January welcome is always the most surreal of the year ’ s issues .
Not only because the rest of the office and indeed the county are in full Christmas mode - with Wham ’ s ‘ Last Christmas ’ seemingly on repeat and everyone devouring the Christmas chocs ( read gin ) while planning for some much needed downtime … But , also as new years are always such pivotal moments , especially when as a society we are perched precariously on the verge of facing yet another monumental s ** tshow of a rollercoaster .
While staring out of the festively adjourned office window , bored by the usual January editorial fodder go-tos of new year ’ s resolutions , fit kicks and moneysaving or making commitments , the sun shining off the recently settled snow offered a momentary reprieve from the almost seemingly continual gloom of what should have been the most wonderful time of the year .
A moment of pause that reconfirmed our whole approach at insideKENT to the new year ahead .
What if we just stop . Take a breath . And go a little easier on ourselves .
No , we can ’ t take away the dominating headlines of a cost of living crisis , replace the inner worry for personal or business anxieties with utter frivolity , nor change world events beyond our control . But that is actually the point . What we can do is take more than a moment to relish some of life ’ s small wonders , pleasures and things to look forward to , and bring a bit of positivity back into the frame one easy step at a time .
Starting of course with things right on our own doorstep .
