Care for the Planet
Your environment directly affects how you feel . Picture yourself sitting at your home , everything clean and tidy in its place . Now , imagine yourself in the same spot , but after a few months of no cleaning and full of clutter . Triggered ? How about a beautiful white-sand beach with rolling waves crashing on a sparkling shoreline bathed in fresh sea air versus a beach filled with suffocating fish and plastic that ’ s being smothered with a haze of pollution . Anxious ? We know we are .
Driving and flying are two massive areas where you can make a really positive environmental impact .
To reduce your carbon footprint ( the sum of all carbon emissions induced by your activities over the course of a year ), choose fuel-efficient travel options ( as a rule of thumb , trains and buses are better than planes and cars ), travel less and try to pick more direct routes to save on fuel , and ride a bicycle or walk wherever possible .
‘ Recycle , reuse and reduce ’ is another tried and tested one to remember . With an excellent local recycling service , there is no excuse for not recycling these days . Adopting a ‘ make do and mend ’ philosophy with clothing and furniture , or upcycling and donating unwanted items to charity is also easily done , and using reusable bags and bottles will also help to cut your carbon footprint . Replace cling film with reusable silicone lids or beeswax paper for storing food if you can and throw food waste in a garden compost bin , and – crucially – make a concerted effort to reduce the amount of plastic in your life . It ’ s tough considering almost everything seems to be made from or contain plastic these days , but a little goes a long way .
