Africa is a vast continent with historically rooted traditions and unique local ways of dressing using a variety of fabric , leather or sometimes beads . The most emblematic fabric associated with African culture is wax fabric – named after the process used to dye this colourful fabric with beeswax or resin . This exhibition takes you on a 200-year journey , from its complex origins in the 19th century to its role in global contemporary culture today , to understand how this iconic textile has become a way to visually represent Africans and the African diaspora . The exhibition features African , Asian and European artworks from national and local collections . There will also be testimonies from Africans and people from the African diaspora telling us how they relate to these woven and printed fabrics .

Explore how the image of Winston Churchill was used repeatedly by cartoonists to celebrate , poke fun at , and make comment on , his life events .
Winston featured in over 600 cartoons published by Punch magazine in his lifetime and after . The exhibition is a small selection chosen to showcase the breadth of topic and time where cartoonists were inspired by Winston . Learn more about his life through depictions of him as a cherub , a man of many hats , a winged bulldog , and Winnie the Pooh .
This exhibition has been co-curated by Katherine Carter , property curator , and Gary Stiles , author of Churchill in Punch , and in partnership with TopFoto .
