Officially, the club opened in July 1994 and did so
in spectacular fashion on the Heritage cour se.
Designer Jack Nicklaus went up against fellow Major
winners Se ve Ballester os and T ony Jacklin in a
Charity Challenge Skins Ma tch. T he mercurial
Spaniard emerged victorious thanks to his short
game. Both the Heritage and the sister cour se, the
International, ha ve gone on to host se veral
professional events. The former hosted the 2008 and
2009 Eur opean Open w hich w ere w on b y
Englishman Ross Fisher, and Frenchman Christian
Cévaër. The International hosted the 2014 Volvo
World Matchplay Championship w on by Mikko
Ilonen o ver Henrik Stenson. It also w elcomed
competitors f or the 2018 and 2019 Sta ysure
PGA Senior s Championship , w hich w ere w on
by Eng lishman Philip Golding and W elshman
Phillip Price.
The Heritage course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature
design that bears all the hallmarks of the 18-time
Major Champion. It provides an exhilarating test
for golfers of all abilities with dramatic tee shots and
daunting approaches that make this cour se both
memorable and challenging. Maintained in pristine
condition all-year round, with fast-rolling greens and
immaculately presented tee-boxes and fairways, the
Heritage is rightly regarded as one of the country’s
finest golfing experiences.
The International course is undoubtedly one of the
finest down land courses in Europe. Long g rasses
sway in an e ver-changing breeze. T he cour se is
naturally firmer and the quick undulating fairways
force a links-style approach, while short holes over
water provide dramatic respite. It proves a tough test
for the most talented of golfers while providing the
opportunity to shoot some great scores with a number
of risk-reward holes over water that really get the
heart pumping.
