Small Problems, Big Changes
PLANNING AN EXTENSION
YOU LOVE YOUR HOME. YOU DON’T WANT TO MOVE. YET THERE’S THIS PROBLEM… AND
IT’S A BIG ONE. OR RATHER, IT’S A BIT TOO SMALL. OR MAYBE A LOT TOO SMALL. NO
MATTER HOW MUCH YOU MIGHT ENJOY LIVING WHERE YOU ARE, AS YOUR LIFE CHANGES,
YOUR FAMILY GROWS, YOUR WORKING HABITS ALTER, YOU MIGHT FIND THAT YOU JUST
DON’T HAVE THE SPACE YOU NEED TO BE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE.
BEN EAMES
It can be frustrating when your family feels like
they’re living on top of each other, but often there
are some practical solutions which can make a real
difference to the amount of space you have. An
extension is one of them.
According to Ben Eames, director of Kent Design
Studio “Sensible adjustments to any home will
enhance enjoyment and usability of the spaces on
offer. Adding an extension will not only provide
relief to the plan bu t it can link zones both inside
and out whilst enhancing energy efficiency.”

Some of the most popular rooms to add are:
• Extra bedrooms
• A study for home working
• A larger kitchen or kitchen diner
• A bigger living room
• A conservatory
• An additional bathroom/WC
And why not? It’s far cheaper than moving, and it
means you can stay exactly where you are but with
the benefit of a larger home. It makes a lot of sense,
although there are some important things to think
about before you make a start.
