OR MAYBE A LOT TOO SMALL. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU MIGHT ENJOY LIVING WHERE YOU ARE, AS YOUR LIFE CHANGES, YOUR FAMILY GROWS, YOUR WORKING HABITS ALTER, YOU MIGHT FIND THAT YOU JUST DON’T HAVE THE SPACE YOU NEED TO BE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE. BEN EAMES It can be frustrating when your family feels like they’re living on top of each other, but often there are some practical solutions which can make a real difference to the amount of space you have. An extension is one of them. According to Ben Eames, director of Kent Design Studio “Sensible adjustments to any home will enhance enjoyment and usability of the spaces on offer. Adding an extension will not only provide relief to the plan bu t it can link zones both inside and out whilst enhancing energy efficiency.” 108 Some of the most popular rooms to add are: • Extra bedrooms • A study for home working • A larger kitchen or kitchen diner • A bigger living room • A conservatory • An additional bathroom/WC And why not? It’s far cheaper than moving, and it means you can stay exactly where you are but with the benefit of a larger home. It makes a lot of sense, although there are some important things to think about before you make a start.
