Five-Minute Make-up
For Busy Mums
WHETHER YOU’RE ABOUT TO FLY OUT THE DOOR ON THE SCHOOL RUN OR HEAD TO
A MUCH-NEEDED NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS, KERRY FOSTER REVEALS THE TIPS AND
TRICKS TO NAIL A GORGEOUS LOOK IN MINUTES.
1. Ace your base
4. Amp up your lashes
For any sleep-deprived mum, base is a must, so find one that works for your skin
type, suggests Kelli Waldock, make-up artist and owner of Whistable’s Pinkies
salon. Ditch fiddly foundation and brushes, and instead opt for something lighter
that can be applied with fingers. Blessed with decent skin but want to look fresh
and glowing? Try a tinted moisturiser or BB (blemish balm) cream. ‘Tinted
moisturisers offer the benefits of a day cream but with very little coverage,’
explains Kelli, ‘while BB creams
give a slightly fuller coverage and come
with added bonuses like an SPF.’ If
your skin’s looking uneven or sallow,
or has age spots, go for a CC (colour
correcting) cream.
Afflicted with stubby lashes? 2-in1
treatment mascaras are a
worthwhile investment for time-
strapped mums. Kelli’s a big fan
of Dreamweave Lash Construct
Mascara, which conditions as it
lengthens, nourishing lashes for a
fuller flutter. Or if panda eyes are
your bugbear, choose a tubing
mascara; these ingenious, budge-
proof formulations wrap each
individual lash in water-resistant,
tube-like polymers. Removing is
a cinch, too – the tubes simply
slide off with warm water. Curl
lashes first with an eyelash curler
to help open up the eyes.

2. Banish shadows
Dark circles are a sure-fire confidence
stealer, so tackle them using a specially
formulated concealer with an in-built brush
or sponge applicator for speed. The eye
area is incredibly delicate, so gently pat
the product into skin using your ring finger.
The warmth from your fingertips will help
the concealer melt into skin and blend
seamlessly. ‘I also like to apply it onto
eyelids to help tone down any redness or
purple tones,’ says Kelli.
Try: Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser Eye Concealer, £8.99; Charlotte Tilbury
The Retoucher, £25; Barry M All Night Long Concealer, £4.49
5: Add a pop of colour
Multi-use products tick both the faff-free and budget-savvy
boxes, so one that works on cheeks and lips is a winner.
For an instant perk-me-up, smile into the mirror and dab
onto the apples (the fleshiest part) of cheeks, before blending
well to give a fresh, youthful effect. Next, press the colour
onto lips with your finger for a longer-lasting stain.
Try: Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek, £20.50; Burt’s Bees All
Aglow Lip & Cheek Stick, £12.99; Beautaniq Cheek &
Lip Balm, £12.50
3. Frame your face
Well-defined brows add structure and help
frame the face. ‘Brow pencil is quick and
easy to apply,’ says Kelli. Apply using
short, light strokes for a natural finish. Or
to keep unruly brows at bay, Kelli advises
a gel with an un-built brush. Brush up
and outward for the most flattering effect.
And remember not to go too dark with
the shade you choose to avoid looking
harsh and unnatural.
Try: Soap & Glory Archery Brow Tint
& Pencil, £10; Benefit Goof Proof Brow
Pencil, £22.50; Rimmel London Brow
This Way Brow Kit, £5.99
