Fire service Safe and Well
visits get a 10 from Len!
Former Strictly Come Dancing head judge, Len Goodman,
booked himself a Safe and Well home visit with Kent Fire and
Rescue Service, and now he’s encouraging others to take
advantage of the free service too.
Len says: “The Safe and Well home visit
service with Kent Fire and Rescue Service
is a no brainer, it’s fantastic. They come to
your home, check your smoke alarms are
working and in the right place, and they can
even fit new ones for free if you need them.
“Also, if you’ve got hearing
or eyesight challenges,
they’ll even fit special
smoke alarms that
flash and vibrate.
They’ll identify any fire
hazards, chat about
making an escape
plan for your home and give you loads of fire
safety advice. They love a cuppa too! So don’t be
daft, book your visit today – it’s absolutely free!”
A home safety officer or firefighter will visit
your home at a time that’s convenient to you,
and they’ll have an ID card which states they
work for Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
In addition to checking and fitting smoke
alarms, they’re there to help make sure you’re
safe, provide advice, and answer any questions
you may have. The visit will take around 45
minutes, and by the end you’ll have peace of
mind that your home has been given a thumbs
up for fire safety.
If you have older relatives or friends who
you think might benefit from a visit, or perhaps
you’re a carer and would like to book for
someone in your care, you can call to book on
their behalf.
The service is available to:
• People with a long-term health condition
• People over 70 years old
• People living with dementia
• Smokers
• Families with young children
• Expectant parents
