IN ASSOCIATION WITH
CHOOSING A UNIVERSITY BY UNIVERSITY OF KENT
Amazing, exciting and life-changing – that’s how
students describe their university experience.
People of all ages have many varied reasons for
choosing to go to university, perhaps because they
want to create a better future for themselves, their
families, or the world in which we all live. Options
for study include short courses, undergraduate
degrees, professional qualifications and postgraduate
taught and research programmes.
Studying at university has a whole range of benefits,
from making young people more independent and
financially responsible to meeting like-minded
students and forming new friendships. In addition
to academic studies, students at any stage of their
life will have the chance to take part in a whole range
of career enhancing activities including
entrepreneurship, networking and careers fairs.
Building on these academic and employability skills,
graduates have access to fabulous opportunities in
the UK and across the world, as well as higher rates
of pay and the reward of life-long friendships and
professional networks.
In addition to the academic subject, there are many
other aspects to take into account when choosing
where to study. Perhaps it is important to be able to
study close to home or on a part-time basis; add a
year in industry or abroad; or if moving away from
home is a self-contained campus or city university
the best place to be. Student support services are a
vital part of choosing a university; these can range
from disability support to mentoring; academics skills
workshops to bursaries and scholarships; and more.
To find out more about the options make sure to go
to several open days or, if that isn’t possible, check
university websites for virtual tours, students you
can chat to, and social media channels to get an idea
of what it’s like to study there.
