THE HOLIDAY & TRAVEL SHOW
ROB DEBENHAM, FAIR DIRECTOR, IDENTIFIES HIS TRAVEL TRENDS FOR 2020:
ALONGSIDE SUSTAINABILITY, PEOPLE WILL ALSO BE KEEN TO TRY NEW THINGS AND GET OUT OF
THEIR COMFORT ZONE. RECENT RESEARCH FROM DESTINATIONS: THE HOLIDAY & TRAVEL SHOW
REVEALED THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR HOLIDAY-MAKERS TO DO ON THEIR TRIP IS
TO EXPERIENCE ANOTHER CULTURE – WITH 70% OF PEOPLE SAYING SO.
Round the world trips were revealed as people’s
dream holiday, reinforcing people’s desire to explore.
But if individuals did have to choose one place
to visit, The Galapagos in Ecuador came out top,
followed by the Rocky Mountains in North
America and the Amazonian Rainforest in
Brazil, indicating there could be a boost in tourism
in these areas.
Experiential activities are topping people’s
ultimate bucket list, with ever popular safaris at the
top of the list, followed by a sunrise hot air balloon
ride and finally a rainforest hike.

their luxury thanks. It is still on its way back from
Hurricane Irma, but well worth exploring.
I think India is coming up again. Madhya Pradesh
for the safaris will be very popular as you get to see
the animals including the Bengal tiger in their natural
habitat, as well as seeing the incredible culture. More
northern territories are also perfect for experiencing
less touristy areas.
Closer to home in Europe, I think people are
going to be visiting the Baltic states of Montenegro,
Slovenia and Slovakia and of course rural, more
undiscovered parts of Europe. People want to go
off the beaten track – although people will still be
visiting popular destinations they want to discover
their best kept secrets.”
“2020 will be all about Japan, thanks to the recent
Rugby World Cup and of course the Olympics which
will be huge! I also think that China is going to be
on people’s visit-list. It’s getting much more accessible
and one area that I believe will do well from tourism
next year is Hunan, a mountainous province in
southern China – it’s got a wonderful mix of culture,
amazing food and the scenery is absolutely epic! Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show ,
the UK’s leading and longest-running travel event,
will return in 2020 to Olympia London for the 27th
year from Thursday 30th January until Sunday 2nd

The Caribbean is also going to rise back in
popularity now it’s recovering from the hurricanes.

with those who love glamping in the middle of
nowhere with a private beach at Frangipani, or like With over 600 brands and 70 global tourist boards
