Travel Trend: Sustainability Travel Trend: Taste Tourists
Set to be the buzzword for 2020 travel, sustainable,
eco or green travel will drive more holiday making
decisions this year. According to the Sustainable Travel
Report released by Booking.com, 58% of travellers
will consciously avoid visiting a destination if it is
shown to negatively impact the people who live
there. Rob Debenham, fair director of Destinations:
The Holiday & Travel Show adds: “Sustainability
is set to get even bigger in 2020 so people will be
consciously trying to find more environmentally
friendly ways to travel and enjoy the world around
them without making an impact.” Epicures are on the move in 2020, as people are
letting their palates lead the way. Travellers will
increasingly revel in a portfolio of famous restaurants
which are culinary destinations in themselves.
Drawing on research conducted with Simon Calder
and the Future Laboratory, as well as its own
members booking trends; Stay One Degree, the
world’s first members’ club for luxury travel predicts
that more travellers will be on a mission to expand
their palates, with 33% of members actively seeking
out food-specific destinations with access to well
respected Michelin Starred restaurants, local produce
markets and nearby culinary courses. The relatively
recent development in food-centred holidays is the
focus on wine – or enotourism. With ‘New World’
wine destinations such as California having already
capitalised on this, the ‘Old World’ vineyards in
France, Spain or Portugal are now set to catch up.
