BIRDS OF PREY
OF THE NORTH KENT MARSHES
Capel Fleet Raptor Viewpoint,
Isle of Sheppey
www.kentwildlife.org.uk
Time: 10am | Price: £35
The Isle of Sheppey has the highest density of
overwintering birds of prey in the county and is one
of the UK’s premier sites for species such as short-
20
eared owl, hen and marsh harrier, merlin, peregrine
and, in some years, rough-legged buzzard. The
morning will be spent watching birds of prey from
the specially designed RSPB raptor viewpoint at
Capel Fleet. Advice will be provided on how to
observe and identify the various species in the field.
After lunch there will be a photographic presentation
on birds of prey in Kent, during which you will look
again at the key identification features for each
species and learn about the characteristics of this
fascinating group.

BURN’S NIGHT CELEBRATION
Hever Castle, Hever
www.hevercastle.co.uk
Time: from 3pm | Price: from £195
Hever Castle Luxury Bed and Breakfast will once
again be hosting a Burns Night celebration on Friday
24 January 2020. This spectacular event will combine
an overnight stay in five star luxury accommodation
with a tribute to the life, works and spirit of the great
Scottish poet, Robert Burns. What better place to
celebrate this time honoured event than at Hever
Castle, where all are welcome, from active
participants to quiet appreciators. Combining a
formal affair with all the pomp and ceremony one
would expect at a traditional Burns Night supper
with an informal knees-up to a Ceilidh, Hever is
expecting this event to be yet another sell out success.

THE EMPTY STAGE
Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne
www.avenuetheatre.co.uk
Time: 7.30pm | Price: £9
Written and directed by Tobias Nicholls. Rising star
Carina Harris was killed during an unscheduled
rehearsal for an upcoming play. Now it’s up to the
director to work out which of his temperamental
cast is dramatic enough to be a killer. The Empty Stage
has kept audiences guessing since 2016, and Purple
Dreams are excited to now bring this popular and
modern ‘whodunit’ to the Avenue Theatre.

JOSIE LONG
Quarterhouse, Folkestone
www.quarterhouse.co.uk
Time: 8pm | Price: £16
The three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee
is finally back with a brand new show. It is a show
about the mind-bending intensity of new
motherhood, but it is also about kindness, gentleness
and joy. A cult-optimist herself, Josie wants her
audiences to feel optimistic about the future, although
in this current day and age, that’s a big ask. But at
the very least there will be some silly voices.
