Pop-Up Pallet Park which turned a bleak and unused area into a green space for the public to enjoy during the summer holidays. The opening of an ODEON i-sense cinema and restaurant complex at the Walnuts Shopping Centre, and the significant investment in London South East Colleges’ Hospitality, Catering and Enterprise College, signalled the start of what has been a rapid growth in the leisure and hospitality sector, and the town’s reputation as a food destination continues to grow. ‘Flavours of Orpington’, a week-long celebration of the choice and quality of the town’s global cuisine, recently enjoyed its 3rd year. Culminating in a weekend of events with ‘Foodie Friday’ , an 42 ORPINGTON 1ST BID WAS AWARDED SILVER GILT AT THIS YEAR’S LONDON IN BLOOM AWARDS. evening of street food and live music, ‘Saturday Showcase’, with chefs from some of the town’s favourite restaurants cooking dishes live in a demonstration kitchen, and ‘Sunday Social’, a fantastic community event organised by Churches Together who welcomed all to Market Square with a free BBQ. A busy programme of events during the autumn season saw the annual ‘Scarecrow Trail’ during October half term, and will be followed by ‘Light Up Orpington’, the borough’s largest Christmas lights switch on - a free-to-attend evening of live entertainment with a fantastic firework display. Rounding off the year with the town’s very own ‘Santa Dash’, Orpington is a town which offers something for everyone.
