Knee Replacement
Surgery at One
Ashford Hospital
Knee replacement surgery is very common and involves replacing
a damaged knee joint with an artificial joint (a prosthesis). After
surgery most patients will see a significant reduction in pain and
improved movement.
Is there a minimum age
requirement? When is it the right time to take
action?
Whilst there is not a minimum age requirement
for this surgery, most patients are between
the ages of 60 and 80, however we are seeing
a greater number of younger patients having a
knee replacement due to greater strains on our
joints. Usually patients will undergo non-invasive
treatment before surgery is recommended,
this can include at-home pain relief,
physiotherapy and pain injections. However
once the pain is no longer manageable or
your lifestyle and movement is impacted
beyond what is acceptable, surgery can be the
next recommended step. We perform many
different surgeries on patients’ knees including
knee arthroscopies, total knee replacements,
minimally invasive knee replacements, partial
knee replacements and revision of existing
knee replacements.
What causes the damage?
Damage to the knee joint is most commonly
caused by general wear and tear from age,
osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or a
fracture/injury.
How much does it cost?
Our fixed-price package of £9,000 is extremely competitive,
with waiting times kept to a minimum.
