Overlooking the picturesque village square, The Dog and Bear Hotel in Lenham combines the
friendly atmosphere of a local pub with all the comforts of a contemporary hotel and restaurant. Stop by and visit the Market House, right in the heart of the
County Town next to Fremlin Walk and opposite the Hazlitt
Theatre, so the perfect place to stop off for a bite to eat or
a drink while shopping or before the theatre. The roof top
terrace and al-fresco seating area are perfect for relaxing and
watching the world go by. The menu includes everything
from small tapas-style plates and superfood salads to spinach
tortilla wraps and burgers and all dishes are freshly cooked
using local ingredients where possible.
Built in 1602, the hotel was visited by Queen Anne in 1704, and her coat of arms is still displayed
above the door today. The decor embraces the hotel’s unique heritage, retaining historic character
features such as oak beams and traditional open fireplaces, combined with sympathetic modern style
and comfort.
It has 24 en-suite bedrooms, which were recently stylishly refurbished and offer contemporary
facilities including flatscreen televisions and free WiFi. Many guests staying at The Dog and Bear
take the opportunity to explore Leeds Castle, just a 10 minute drive away, or the beautiful countryside
of the North Downs, as Lenham sits on the area’s southern border.
If you’re looking for something to eat, you will be spoilt for choice at The Dog and Bear. Traditional
pub dishes and delicious chef’s specials are all freshly prepared using seasonal, locally sourced produce,
where possible. The Dog and Bear’s traditional Sunday roast is particularly popular, with booking
advised.
The Dog and Bear also offers a great range of drinks, including cask ale and lager supplied by local
brewery Shepherd Neame, and a premium selection of wines, spirits and soft drinks.
The coffee station serves up all your favourite speciality coffees
from Grumpy Mule and at the
weekends you can enjoy breakfast from 9am till noon.
Of course they serve a range of international lagers and local
real ales along with a carefully selected wine list and modern
and traditional spirits. There’s a great live music line-up on
Friday and Saturday nights and alternate Sunday afternoons.
Furthermore the upstairs function room is perfect for private
parties and meetings.
