TRAVEL
THE FREEDOM OF
THE FERRY –
a fabulous choice for families
YOU’VE MANAGED TO SQUEEZE THE LUGGAGE IN THE CAR, THE BIKES ARE
ON THE RACK AND EVIE AND ARCHIE HAVE ENOUGH ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS
TO KEEP THEM HAPPY. YOU’RE READY TO MAKE THE SHORT JOURNEY TO THE
FERRY TERMINAL, WHERE YOUR HOLIDAY REALLY BEGINS.
With Dover on your doorstep and Newhaven and
Portsmouth just a stone’s throw away, travelling by
ferry is a stress-free alternative to flying to European
destinations such as France, Spain, Belgium, The
Netherlands and Germany. You don’t need to decide
between taking Bounce, Evie’s favourite soft toy and
a pair of comfortable walking shoes for yourself, you
can just take whatever fits in the car – including your
pet dog. Nor do you need to worry about getting to
the airport, the cost of parking, delays, car hire and
the formidable task of entertaining your children for

a few hours, with them being largely confined to
their seats.
Travelling by car and ferry gives you the freedom
to travel your own road and at a time and pace that
suits you, giving the whole family the chance to relax
and start enjoying the journey as part of the holiday.
After the excitement of boarding the ferry, the kids
are free to explore the ship. From watching on the
deck as the mainland slowly disappears on the
horizon, to surveying the sea for dolphins, whales
and seabirds, there’s time for the kids to run around
and for you to stretch your legs and enjoy the wind
in your hair.
Many ferries have a range of facilities for kids of all
ages, including soft play areas for the younger ones
and games areas for older children, which is ideal
for making new friends. There is often a cinema
area where you can watch family-friendly movies
and most ships are equipped with wifi for any last-
minute route plans or entertainment needs.
