Inside is the cutest and most welcoming air conditioned kids’ club. Older children can be booked in for as much of the day as they wish and younger toddlers can be accompanied by a guardian to enjoy story time, arts and crafts, and that notorious pink pig cartoon on repeat. There are also babysitting services available that charge by the hour and require pre-booking. As if that wasn’t enough, it is situated just next door to The Spa, the Palazzo Versace’s award winning 1,000sqm wellness retreat. With seven treatment rooms, a spa suite, two traditional Moroccan hammams, relaxation areas for both men and women complete with plunge pools, steam rooms and saunas, and of course a host of indulgent treatments, it was a case of some well deserved me-time indulgence as sun into massage bliss making use of the free childcare next door offered to all spa guests. And then there are the restaurants and bars. We can all appreciate that Italians not only know their fashion they also certainly know their food…which is great as so do my kids! Staying full board gave us access to almost all of the extensive dining options available. The Giardino, a little indoor Garden of Eden with marble flooring, green mosaic columns and walls decorated in a special edition of the iconic Versace jungle print (think ‘that’ J-Lo dress…), the nature tribute continues on a menu featuring local market ingredients all showcased in live cooking stations for interactive dining – a hit with the children who chose freshly cooked eggs from the breakfast buffet as well as creating their own pasta dishes with the chefs for dinner while us grownups embarked on a global cuisine journey. The relaxed poolside Mediterranean fare at Amalfi with its healthy salads and freshly made pizzas was perfect for alfresco lunch while our destination for dinner had to be Vanitas, the Palazzo Versace’s signature Italian Restaurant set creekside to offer a beautiful backdrop for intimate dining in a classic Italian palace room with handmade wall decorations featuring the Grottesche Italiane. Here the creative kitchen team aims to harness authentic, rustic and traditional Italian techniques – even using herbs fresh picked from the hotel gardens – with creative flair, and boy do they deliver on their daily set or specially created à la carte menus. We began with cannelloni di salomne marinato, delicate cannelloni rolls of smoked salmon encasing cream cheese with avocado puree, and pappa al pomodoro, a delicious hearty bowl of tomato soup with fresh basil oil from which hands appeared across the table ready to dip chunks of fresh bread. Our main courses delivered branzino alla griglia, a perfectly grilled sea bass with vegetables, and tagliata di manzo – seared beef sirloin with a delicate layered potato. Dessert of course could only be the classic tiramisu. The children aren’t forgotten here either with a specially constructed children’s menu featuring rich, smooth vegetable soup, heaving dishes of pennette Bolognese, and chicken Milanese with french fries – together with dishes of gelato, this all proved to be a recognisable but refined instant hit. Without a shade of a doubt, any trip to Dubai needs to feature dinner at Vanitas. The Palazzo is a unique place indeed; you don’t ‘stay’ here, you live it! And it proved even more of a delight to truly feel relaxed and indulged on a family trip. It is little wonder that the accolades and awards, which began with being named ‘Best New Hotel’ at the sixth Middle East Hotel Awards within just six months of opening and before its official launch, just keep coming. A true testament to the many years of planning, attention to detail and the effortless service offered by all staff, long may its reign continue!
