ENJOY TEN DAYS OF EXCITING EVENTS, OPEN STUDIOS AND PERFORMANCES CELEBRATING THE ARTISTS, MAKERS, BUSINESSES, SHOPS AND EATERIES THAT MAKE UP THIS UNIQUE URBAN VILLAGE. OPEN QUARTER IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT FOLKESTONE AND EXPLORE YOUR OWN CREATIVITY. The fifth annual Connecting Creatives event at 5.30pm on Friday 14th June marks the launch of this year’s Open Quarter at Folkestone Quarterhouse. Local businesses, artists and start ups will share knowledge and talk about future plans in a casual mini- conference, condensing big ideas into bite-size portions. The following nine days sees the Creative Quarter throw open its doors inviting everyone to discover something new. You’re guaranteed to be inspired by the hive of activity as jewellers, tailors, sculptors, painters, web designers, performers and filmmakers open their doors to the public. With the arrival of Creative Folkestone’s new tech hub – digital:glassworks – come along to one of five free hour-long lunchtime tech talks from local creatives at 1pm from Monday 17th-Friday 21st June. Explore the offices and studios inside digital:glassworks throughout Open Quarter paying a visit to The Robing Room for workshops involving all things textiles, chatting with Living Words about dementia and mental health, and stepping into a world of virtual reality with Lubna Gem Arielle. Begin your adventure at the top of The Old High Street, with exhibitions at Lilford Gallery and artists’ open studios. Stop by Steep Street Coffee House for live performances, and don’t miss a bunting making workshop at Miss Ginger’s. Packed with artists and makers, Tontine Street is a hidden gem bursting with talent just waiting to be explored. Pay a visit to B&B Project Space, The Stables, Fosbery Studio, D:NA Gallery, HOP Projects CT20 and The Wedge to discover work including illustration, lighting design, sculpture, painting, monoprints, linoprints, performance art and so much more. Enjoy a free family fun day in digital:glassworks’ courtyard on Sunday 16th June. Sing and dance with Mrs H and the Sing-along Band alongside DJ Local Foreigner, watch puppet shows, get your face painted, make badges, tuck into delicious food and drink, and build and test water rockets with Supreme Science. You can also get creative with two free family workshops at Block 67 and experiment with textiles, recycled materials, developing characters and stories based on the children’s book series Dave Pigeon! Just drop in between 11am- 3pm – everyone is welcome. Open Quarter is also the perfect excuse to shop in an array of independent shops. Drop into Atelier Feralchild, R&R, Delicious California and Violet Elizabeth for fashion and jewellery. Visit Kitty McCall for stunning interior design and dig through Vintage & Vinyl’s record collection. Stop by Thalassa for beautiful gifts, Moo Like a Monkey for amazing baby and toddler clothes and toys, Folkestone Wholefoods for ethical food and skincare, and The Woodshed for amazing art.
