Did You Know?
The first bank note that went on to be widely used
appeared in 18 53. However, back in 18 18 ,
Bexleyheath printer August A pplegarth and
his brother-in-law created a machine that
would print paper on both sides and in colour. He
offered this machine to the Bank of England to
make paper money, but alas, the notes that were
made were easily forged and the entire process was
given up in 1821.
