Allpets Vet Clinic challenges pet owners to check their pet’s teeth early Did you know... ….80% of dogs and 70% of cats show some signs of tooth and mouth disease by the age of 3…. ….poor dental health can lead to bad breath (halitosis), loose teeth and tooth loss, mouth pain and poor appetite…. Many people tell me they give their dog a dental chew, yet when I open their mouths I see plenty of problems in there! Dental chews may help, but alone will not prevent the problem. Our pets can have dental problems as a result of a breed tendency (like my dog in the picture), a diet susceptibility (mushy food), and a busy household scenario, where teeth problems quietly build up. Dogs and cats don’t tell us that plaque is eating into their gum-lines, or that painful absorptive lesions (holes) are developing in their cats teeth. These ….dental disease can cause serious health problems where bacteria from the teeth enter the blood and can affect the heart, kidneys and liver…. ….preventative dental care in the form of brushing and dentals can significantly improve your pet’s health and quality of life…. problems are hidden from owners. You may see a sign such as eating on one side, or jumping back when eating, or just plain bolting of food so that they avoid the pain altogether. But animals are generally stoic and don’t complain until the damage is so far gone that everyone notices! So many pets end up losing their teeth, even young pets, that we have made it a priority at Allpets Veterinary Clinic to professionally clean your pet’s teeth. Afterwards we will spend some time showing you the different ways you can keep their teeth clean after their procedure. In the month of May we are offering a free take home kit with every dental booked with us, whether it is for a minor scale and polish, or for major extractions. The outcome will be one happy pet, one happy owner and one toolkit to help keep it that way!
