The New Beacon
celebrates top marks
In February the School was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate
(ISI). The assessment looks at compliance with the Independent School Standards
(eg Safeguarding, H&S). The various elements of compliance are either ‘met’ or
‘not met’. At The New Beacon all standards were met.
Alongside this an Educational Quality Inspection is
judged under two headings: the pupils’ academic
and other achievements; the pupils’ personal
development. The headline judgments are:
Excellent, Good, Sound or Unsatisfactory.
Mr Piercy Headmaster said, “I am delighted to
report that the achievements of the boys and their
personal development were both found to be
Excellent. There is much to enjoy in the report but a
few lines leap out at me.”
‘The caring nature of the school is promoted
consistently throughout all aspects of school life
and, in particular, by the excellent role models
provided by the staff.’
‘Pupils throughout the school show excellent
confidence and self-awareness. Boarders are
particularly self-disciplined; they exuded maturity
and self-understanding during discussions.’
‘The pupils’ attitudes to learning are outstanding.’
‘Pupils approach their lessons with great
enthusiasm.’
‘Pupils are relaxed, polite and well-mannered, as a
result of the strong pastoral care that they receive.’
Mr Piercy went on to say, “ISI inspections are, quite
rightly, rigorous. I am absolutely thrilled therefore
that inspectors found and reported on the school I
know and of which I am so proud. Absolute credit
to the staff and, of course, to the boys!”
‘The school is highly accomplished in meeting its
aim to ensure that the pupils leave as problem
solvers, who can take responsibility for their work,
and for their lives.’
The New Beacon is a Prep School for boys aged 4-13 in Sevenoaks Kent with a new co-educational nursery
for rising 3 year olds opening in September 2019.
