Doing something creative with your partner can be just the thing to make date night something to remember, especially if you get to bring your creation home with you and can keep it as a souvenir. At The Ceramic Studio in Brenchley, there’s a pottery experience day that’s ideal for those who want to try something new as a couple. No experience is required and you’ll come away with a new skill as well as having lots of fun. And of course, ever since Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore got messy with clay in Ghost, pottery has been something that has been linked with romance. This is a full day workshop from 10am until 5pm, leaving you the rest of the evening to continue your date. Perhaps Go Ape at Bedgebury Pinetum floats your adventurous boat? Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is a gorgeous spot full of the most beautiful Scots pines. There are plenty of activities going on here at all times of the year, and one of the most exciting and most popular has to be Go Ape. Go Ape is all about climbing through the trees tackling obstacles high above the ground. It’s a thrilling activity and ideal for those who love to raise their adrenalin levels. You get an hour to climb along the specially designed route that includes a 170-metre zipline, a 13-metre high platform, and a 19-metre long crossing, which in total is a whopping 812-metres long! Alternatively, if you don’t want to spend an entire day doing pottery, you can book a taster session which runs from 1pm until 4pm, Next it will be time to eat, and the Star and Eagle in Goudhurst seems to be the ideal place to go. This hotel, pub and restaurant dates right back to the 14th century and within its ancient walls you’ll find a real inglenook fireplace where, during the winter, blazing log fires warm the room. There is definitely a friendly, cosy atmosphere and the food is first class, made to order by a top chef. The cuisine is a mix of both traditional British and more exotic dishes...options include: baked avocado and crab with a cheese sauce; Rioja-braised shoulder of lamb with chorizo and garlic baked in the oven very slowly with carrots and roasted peppers; and chicken fajitas, salsa, guacamole, sour cream and tortillas. There is often live music at the Star and Eagle too, so when you’ve finished your sumptuous meal, you can sit back and relax with a drink or two and enjoy the entertainment on offer.
