EDUCATION SIXTH FORM EXTENSION PROGRAMME AT BEDE’S IN AN INCREASINGLY COMPETITIVE WORLD, IT IS IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS AND QUALITIES THAT GO BEYOND SIMPLE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. WITH THIS IN MIND, ALL PUPILS IN THE SIXTH FORM AT BEDE’S UNDERTAKE THE BEDE’S DIPLOMA, A HOLISTIC QUALIFICATION MADE UP OF FOUR DISTINCT SECTIONS: EXTEND, ENGAGE, ENLIGHTEN AND ENHANCE, CULMINATING AT THE END OF TWO YEARS IN A VIVA-STYLE INTERVIEW. 184 The Bede’s Diploma enables pupils to develop the essential life skills and employability attributes that are recognised by employees and universities as being so crucial to their development. Every pupil has the opportunity to undertake an additional academic enrichment qualification within the ‘Extend’ aspect of the Bede’s Diploma, through which they develop and demonstrate valuable skills of independent learning, research and leadership. Qualifications include the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Arts Award, Level 2 or 3 Award in Sports Leadership or Level 2 in Certificate in Finance. community volunteering and involve themselves in the house and school communities. Through The ‘Enlighten’ series is a programme of lectures and talks given by prominent figures from the local, national and international communities, on topics such as personal journeys and achievements, current affairs and career pathways. a series of workshops and talks, the week covers everything from university and apprenticeship applications, CV writing, interview techniques to personal finances, budgeting, cooking and managing household affairs. The aim is that every pupil will end their time in school able to tell you the difference between the Socratic method and platonic love, cook spaghetti Bolognese and work a washing machine, succeed in a formal interview and have experienced volunteering for a truly worthy cause. www.bedes.org
