Set at the stunning setting of Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, England’ s Medieval Festival is a three-day immersive experience held each August bank holiday. Attracting over 15,000 visitors each year, this hugely popular event is the most authentic of its kind in the UK and a real chance to discover the magic of the past. From the moment of arrival, visitors can enjoy realistic historical battles, a grand parade, jousting, falconry, archery and much more from the hundreds of fantastic entertainers who return year after year. There ' s the chance to wander through medieval shopping markets and the many living history villages scattered around the castle grounds. You can chat to traditional crafts people while they demonstrate their skills and there is even the opportunity to take part in workshops like blacksmith forging, wood weaving, calligraphy and chain mailing.
Kids Kingdom is a world of medieval fun for little ones with wizard, jesters and traditional games. Search further through the trees and discover woodland adventures, a witch storytelling circle, and so much more. The festival also hosts several medieval weddings and handfastings over the weekend.
Foot-stomping folk bands party all night in Buxom Wench Tavern and weekend guests can enjoy the moonlit cinema, stargazing, or fireside storytelling. An array of dazzling demonstrations, realistic reenactments, highly skilled falconry and thrilling jousting means many guests take advantage of weekend camping and glamping overlooking the castle. A torchlit procession leaves the campsite each evening with an optional medieval banquet in the castle or the ' feast of fools ' in the grounds.
