VINTAGE FINDS, HOMEMADE FAYRE AND A TRUE FAMILY AFFAIR AT

Weathered and Worn, HADLOW

ONE OF THE MANY BENEFITS OF BEING PART OF THE insideKENT TEAM IS DISCOVERING HIDDEN GEMS ACROSS THE COUNTY. FROM BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC BUILDINGS TO STUNNING LANDSCAPES, SEASIDE CHARMS AND BUCOLIC PARADISES... AND OF COURSE, SOME PRETTY DARN GOOD PLACES TO EAT. BY SAMANTHA READY
It was one of our numerous journeys to west Kent that led us to find the beautiful doublebay fronted, whitewood-clad home of Weathered and Worn, a vintage-shop-cumtearoom predominantly situated on Hadlow’ s High Street.
The mother and daughter run enterprise is the perfect encapsulation of Madeline’ s obsession with vintage finds and Hannah’ s passion for offering homemade fayre in a homely setting, and boy do they deliver.
Walking in is like descending into a vintage Aladdin ' s cave – everything from reclaimed dressers and sideboards to lamps and crockery that visitors can browse away the day combing for rare treasures that Madeline has sourced from across the country and beyond to France and the US.
There are small tables for two and farmhouse tables for groups, while free WiFi means that it’ s just as good for a quick work meeting as it is for brunching, lunching and afternoon tea.
The extra coffee shop space at the rear with cosy sofas and fireplace seats an additional 20 people on busy days and leads to the quiet sun-streaked garden perfect for a cuppa and a cake … and this is some seriously good cake.
Weathered and Worn prides itself on its homemade fayre including fresh soups of the day, breakfast sandwiches( the bacon doorstops come highly recommended!), light lunches and of course deliciously indulgent cake – homemade by Aunty Juliet no less. We were in cake-lovers heaven!
Changing daily, there are large sponge cakes – we had the choice of strawberry lemonade, carrot or coffee and walnut as well as traybakes. We devoured the millionaire’ s shortbread and rocky road, and there’ s loaf slices such as a fantastic lemon drizzle on offer too. They also cater to gluten- and lactose-free diets and serve a great range of teas, coffees and hot chocolates; the Belgian white chocolate and vanilla hot chocolate put paid to the diet and was worth every last drop.
And if that wasn’ t enough they even do a takeaway service … go on then one more slice of cake for the road … Weathered and Worn is open Wednesday to Saturday, is family and dog friendly, and offers free parking. What more could you ask for on a sunny, family day out?
