MOUNT EPHRAIM COUNTRY HOUSE & GARDENS

– ENCHANTING BEAUTY IN THE HEART OF KENT

VISITKENT
MOUNT EPHRAIM IS MOST WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR SPECTACULAR 10 ACRES OF CLASSICAL GARDENS AND FOR THEIR POPULAR TEA ROOM, WHICH ARE BOTH OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND LIE WITHIN AN 800-ACRE FARM WITH STUNNING VIEWS OF THE SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE.
For over 300 years, the Dawes family have lovingly cared for the house and gardens. First laid out in the early 1900s, the gardens suffered through wartime neglect and damage from use by the army. However, in the early 1950s, Mary and Bill Dawes poured their hearts and souls into restoring them before opening them to the public in the 1980s. It’ s this family touch that lends Mount Ephraim gardens their personal charm. Today, the gardens continue to be cared for by two full-time gardeners, and the estate is run by two generations of the Dawes family.
The gardens feature a Japanese rock garden and bridge, water garden and lake, arboretum, and a spectacular grass maze with a small play area for children. An elaborate and unusual topiary with a miscellany
of birds, animals and First World War memorabilia sit alongside the Millennium Rose Garden and herbaceous border.
A recent addition to the business are five beautifully decorated guest rooms with stunning views over the gardens and estate, which offer a chance to experience country manor life in style.
Mount Ephraim is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, both inside the house and in the gardens, and can host wedding receptions in the manor house, or in a marquee on the lawn.
