For food and drink lovers it would be a shame to miss the Broadstairs Food Festival, which is on until 2nd April; the Cliftonville Farmers Market on 29th April; and the Ramsgate Brewery Tour taking place on 7th April.
Then there are the Easter egg hunts. Thanet always does like to do things differently, so these exciting egg and scavenger hunts have been designed with that in mind. Take the Scavenger and Great Egg Case Hunt on Margate Main Sands on 3rd April, Viking Bay on 4th April and Ramsgate Main Sands on 5th April. Not only is this an exciting hunt where children will look for shark egg cases, but they will also be able to get involved in making a marine art masterpiece. Egg-citing stuff!
For those who love indulging in a bit of creativity, you’ re going to love the Make Some Noise At Quex event where you can make a djembe drum( 3rd-6th April) or a thunder drum( 10th-13th April). Alternatively, there is a weeklong painting course being held at Silverland Studios for children from 3rd to 7th April, and adults from 9th to 13th April.
Of course, Thanet wouldn’ t be Thanet without a good dose of activity, which is why there is plenty for those who love to be energetic to do. The Skate and Skoot Camp at Revolution Skatepark from 9th to 13th April is one example, plus there are four fantastic minigolf courses to play on. Try all four and challenge your friends and family to a tournament!
Art has always played an important part in Thanet ' s heritage, so why not take part this month by visiting Journeys with the Wasteland at Turner Contemporary and also at the Undercover Festival at Dreamland on 13th and 14th April; the Classic Car Show at
Crampton Tower( 22nd April) and the always magnificent Looping The Loop Festival from 27th April to 7th May are all part of the very fabric of the area.
DISCOVER AN ECLECTIC MIX OF ATTRACTIONS
Thanet has a diverse array of world-renowned attractions that straddle the cultural, artistic and active endeavours of the area. It also has plenty of‘ hidden gems’ that, once discovered, can never be forgotten. Turner Contemporary, one of the most interesting and modern art galleries in the world, is one of the former, as is Dreamland the amusement park.
When it comes to those hidden gems, there are plenty to choose from. The Micro Museum – a museum dedicated to computer games and gaming, the Shell Grotto, Dickens House, the Ramsgate Tunnels – a labyrinth of underground tunnels dating back to World War II, Crampton Tower and Margate Museum are all well worth a visit.
From 1st April visitors to the amazing Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum in Manston will be able to experience a brand new Spitfire simulator. You’ ll see just what it was like to fly one of these incredible machines in an accurate 1:1 scale replica of the Spitfire’ s cockpit. It costs £ 30 for 30 minutes per person and must be booked online in advance. www. spitfiremuseum. org. uk
Dreamland has some fun new events and activities for the Easter season too including The Whale, a lifesize inflatable sperm whale theatre installation which will house The Pirate Misadventure Show. As well as this, children can join in with the Shaun The Sheep Championsheeps from 7th to 15th April, and Peter Rabbit’ s story time on 6th April.
BOOK A ROOM – STAY LONGER AND SEE AND DO MORE
A day trip to the Isle of Thanet just isn ' t enough, especially with so much going on in April, so why not book a room in one of Margate’ s, Broadstairs’, or Ramsgate’ s lovely hotels and stay for longer? There is a great mix of boutique hotels, comfy guest houses, excellent value for money self-catering accommodation and of course camping and caravan parks.
The Bay Tree Hotel, which overlooks beautiful Stone Bay in Broadstairs, has recently reopened after a major refurbishment that celebrates the original features of the grand Victorian building and is certainly somewhere special to rest a weary head before another day of adventuring.
