WELCOME
THREE GENERATIONS WALKING
IN THE FOREST
March is a glorious month. The days
get longer, the sun shines a little bit
brighter and everyone has a little bit of
early spring in their step. Admittedly, I’m
not the most sentimental of people, but
Mother’s Day is a poignant day for me
every year, partly because my own mum
lives 250 miles away and I miss being able to
spend the day with her, and partly because I’m
a mum myself, so it resonates twofold.
If you’re thinking of treating your mum on 11th
March, we’ve rounded up some of the very best
places for you to take her out for a slap-up meal
from p60; you can keep it simple with some classic
pub grub, or go the whole hog adding spa
treatments and Champagne. If you want to get her
something special to say thank you for everything
she’s done, take a look at our gift guide from p84
for some great ideas.
One of my favourite ‘mum memories’ was seeing
my eldest skip off to school on her very first day.
Each child is so different and choosing the right
school for them at every stage of their education
is one of the most important decisions you’ll make.
Turn to p107 for our 27-page Kent education special
where you’ll find lots of interesting information on
some of the county’s top schools.
Let’s not forget Easter – a religious celebration for
many, a celebration of chocolate for others, but for
all of us, a lovely long weekend to get friends and
family together for some feasting. We’ve paired a
traditional menu of Easter recipes with some
quirkier alternatives from p58, and you’ll find a fine
selection of Easter eggs with edge on p66.

MY FAVOURITE THINGS THIS MONTH…
WYLDSSON HAZELNUT
AND COCOA SPREAD ,
£5.99, www.wyldsson.com
All hail Wyldsson’s newest spread –
Hazelnut and Cocoa, which is vegan,
palm-oil free (hooray for the
orangutans!), and has twice the protein,
none of the refined sugar and half the
saturated fat of Nutella. Which really just
means you can eat more of it in my book.
BELGIAN CARAMEL MILK CHOCOLATE
SOLID EGG , £24.99,
www.solidchocolateco.com
Finally, it’s been done! Some bright spark
who gives zero figs about neither
hyperactive children nor the possibility of
dental cavities has thought up the greatest
confectionary invention ever – a solid 750g
of Belgian milk chocolate with caramel
undertones in 42 bitesize chunks standing
at 14cm high. Enough said. (Also comes in
milk, white and dark.)
BARISTA TS SMART ® BEAN-TO-CUP COFFEE
MACHINE , £1,199, www.amazon.co.uk
For coffee enthusiasts looking for an
alternative to time-consuming manual
espresso makers, the Melitta Barista TS
Smart® does everything from grinding and
making thick, creamy espressos to automatic

and these plates prove it. Bright, fun and affordable,
they look cool and they’re perfect for braving the
great outdoors, whether that’s a simple picnic in the
park, or a week-long camping adventure.
