Spotlight on MARGATE cont.

DINING OUT
The Ambrette
This is not your usual Indian cuisine –
delicately spiced and contemporary, there are
no curries on the menu. The motto at The
Ambrette is fresh, sustainable and local, and
the chef, Dev Biswal, sticks closely to his beliefs,
offering a range of exceptional Indian food
that you will probably never have tasted before.
Examples of the modern food include tender
breast of poussin marinated in fresh turmeric
and cumin and served with chicken roulade,
foraged salad, chicken and lemon raita and
coriander chutney.
Roost Restaurant
At Roost the food is simple and it’s meant to
be. There is nothing fancy here; no twists and
turns, just exceptionally good food cooked
well. It’s the perfect place to relax in an unfussy
situation. Roost began as a chicken restaurant,
but now serves a range of food including
seaweed salt and pepper squid, the Vegan
Buddha bowl, tempura soft shell crab burger
and caramelised banana and pecan split.
Buoy And Oyster
A seafood restaurant in a coastal town has a
lot of expectation to live up to, and the Buoy
and Oyster does it confidently. With fresh
ingredients and a cosy cocktail lounge, this is
an intimate spot that serves delicious food.

Examples include black water wild oysters,
whiskey and treacle cured trout, monkfish
cheek roll and traditional fish and chips.
Mullins Brasserie
Once upon a time, the building that houses
Mullins Brasseries was a butcher’s shop. It was
transformed into one of Margate’s best loved
and most popular restaurants, a warm and
inviting place to eat. A mix of European and
Caribbean cuisine, the menu is full of gorgeous
delicacies such as rustic Bajan fishcakes served
with peppered mayonnaise and mixed salad;
baked parmesan and herb-crusted fillet of
mahi mahi served with sauté potatoes, bok
choi and lemon thyme beurre blanc; and jerk
king prawns, paw paw, mango and coconut
salad drizzled with a coconut and lime
vinaigrette.
