NEWS HEVER CASTLE UNVEILS NEW ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND Hever Castle’s new adventure playground was officially opened in October. ‘Henry VIII’ escorted the specially invited visitors to the new play area and Richard Guthrie, son of owner John Guthrie, cut the ribbon alongside members of the Waldegrave family – Katie Waldegrave and Liza Hallinan and Camilla Trusted from the Astor family. Aimed at children 7-14, it features three slides and two poles and lots of interactive elements split into three houses named after three of the most significant owners in the evolution of the Castle: Boleyn, Waldegrave and Astor. Duncan Leslie, CEO, said: “This has been quite an undertaking doing this project and a great team effort pulling it together. There is a good chance that one day this building might be listed because it’s built to last.” The 9-metre-tall castle is bigger than a four-bedroom house with its own moat, drawbridge and three turrets. Children can experience a castle under siege with one side incomplete as if it’s been attacked with a cargo net to climb, noises of archers and a drawbridge. Tudor Towers was designed by FRLA Ltd and constructed by West Sussex-based Duncan and Grove to replace the former Tower Maze playground. The playground is now open to the public. DON’T FORGET TO ORDER YOUR CHRISTMAS TURKEY! Woolpack Corner Farm in Biddenden is home to Tony Fleck, owner of Kent Turkeys Ltd. Tony is one of Kent’s only (and largest) KellyBronze franchisees, rearing around 1,000 turkeys each year along with 150 Norfolk geese. KellyBronze turkeys have been bred over many years by the Kelly family to produce a slow-growing turkey, hatched and raised in its natural season. The turkeys come to Tony in June at just a few hours old. For the first five weeks they are kept in the barn and nurtured. Once strong enough they are moved outside where they are free to roam and explore across 16 acres of grazing land. Every night they are put into three separate turkey houses to protect them from foxes. Ensuring the birds are happy and healthy means that there is no need for antibiotics or extra additives in their feed. The birds are slow growing and by allowing them to grow to maturity slowly they develop a layer of natural fat, mature carcass and bone – all of which 148 are essential for award-winning flavour and natural gravy stock. Every turkey comes with full cooking instructions and complimentary thermometer, making cooking Christmas dinner straight forward and stress free! Kent Turkey’s KellyBronze turkeys and Norfolk geese are available to order online at www.kentturkeys.co.uk or by calling 01580 291792 for collection from the farm or selected pick up points around Kent.
