DINING OUT ANNUAL EVENTS Koz Restaurant Koz Restaurant offers food that combines the cuisine of the Middle East, the Balkans, the Mediterranean and Central Asia, and it does so skilfully and with ease. That many flavours and that many types of food could become muddled and messy in less capable hands, but at Koz it’s all delicious, and all handled with care. Dishes include sigara boregi (light filo pastry filled with feta cheese and spinach), grilled spicy Turkish sausage and ali nazik (lamb or chicken with tomatoes served with aubergine and a yoghurt and mustard sauce). The Beckenham Festival // Oct-Nov The Beckenham Festival is known to be one of the largest amateur dancing competitions in the South East, and competitors travel from across the country to attend. The dancing heats are held on weekends throughout October and November, culminating in a grand finale that is always a delight and always well attended. There are many different classes and over 200 different prizes to be won. Coppers British Restaurant Situated in Beckenham’s old police station, this independent restaurant is proud of its locally sourced ingredients and seasonal dishes that make it one of the best places to eat in the area. They even offer a 25 percent discount for public sector workers and charity workers from midday on Tuesday to close of business on Friday. Food on the menu includes homemade sweet potato soup, chargrilled tuna steak with sweet potato mash and vegetables and tender Cornish lamb cutlets served with grain mustard mash, sautéed wild mushrooms and a red wine sauce. Sea Salt Sea Salt is a contemporary seafood restaurant that is as stylish as it is friendly. There is plenty to choose from on the eclectic menu, including grilled Dover sole, halibut crust and sea bass supreme. And even if you prefer meat to fish, there are options for you too such as ricotta chicken and a variety of steaks. 52 St George’s Festival for Beckenham // June-July This festival was founded in 1992, and is a showcase for all the arts.
