ED SHEERAN: DIVIDE
Ed Sheeran’ s rise from dedicated gigger( who, only six short years ago, was tweeting in search of post-gig sofas to sleep on in exchange for company and a song) to Glastonbury headliner is nothing short of astonishing, but as any fan of his music will testify, it’ s not surprising either. A bit of risky diversion from his previous two albums, which explore love and human emotion in that ballad / rap / folky way that Ed has made his trademark, Divide mixes Irish, African and Spanish musical influences with a really raw vulnerability and a maturity of lyrics that leaves you sobbing into your sheets one minute before dancing your socks off the next. Ambitious and beautiful, Sheeran’ s latest work is a powerful combination and undoubtedly one of this year’ s best albums.
