Papa’s Barn

Yes, the food at Papa’s Barn might be called
fish and chips, but that would be doing it a
disservice. It’s actually much more than that.
This is great fish and chips. Posh fish and
chips. Different fish and chips. And it is all
made with such care and attention that it is
decidedly moreish fish and chips too. The
restaurant is comfortable, the staff are friendly,
and, with a choice of plaice, halibut, skate,
lemon sole, haddock and the ‘Moby Dick’ (a
massive piece of cod) with perfectly cooked
chips, there is nothing to dislike about this
place.
The Vineyard Restaurant

// Wrotham Heath
The menu at The Vineyard is European in
flavour and the wine list is extensive, which
is a great start – but, to make matters even
better, the Vineyard is proud of its range of
excellent fish dishes, which have led the
restaurant to victory across many awards and
accolades in its time. What’s even better is that
nothing on the mouthwatering menus are

out of anyone’s budget, making the entire
experience even more palatable. Fish dishes
include jumbo scallops wrapped in bacon,
grilled and served with garlic butter; filleted
sea bass, served plain or grilled with pernod
and fennel, or garlic and lemon juice; and
salmon fillet. food, it’s nothing short of magnificent. The
menu includes dishes such as lobster and
salmon pasty with pickled cucumber; creamed
smoked coley thermidor with a poached egg;
deep-fried oysters with seaweed and
horseradish; and steamed sea trout with
asparagus, poached egg and hollandaise.
Hythe Bay

Contemporary, but with a classic touch, each
of the two Hythe Bay restaurants offers a
comfortable, relaxed place to enjoy some of
the freshest and most delicious fish in Kent. When the owners of a restaurant are as
passionate about the food they produce as
Nadine and Simon of the Buoy & Oyster in
Margate, you know that something
exceptional is going to happen when you visit.
This is a stylish restaurant complete with
cocktail bar, but the substance of the beautiful
seafood it serves is never lost. Examples of the
wonderful dishes served include moules frites;
mojito halibut; monkfish cheek burger; and
the Buoy Bowl – battered haddock, calamari
and king prawns served with skinny fries, aioli,
tabasco and lemon. The fish is so fresh that
is it usually caught and served on the very
same day.
Rocksalt
www.rocksaltfolkestone.co.uk // Folkestone
Rocksalt is a beautiful place to eat. Floor-to-
ceiling windows look out over the harbour in
Folkestone and, on a clear day, you can see
right across to France. Every table in the room
takes advantage of that view and it really is
something special. Everything is chosen to
compliment everything else, which isn’t as
common as you might think – nothing jars
here; nothing seems out of place. As for the
