NEWS OLIVIER AWARD WIN FOR EX KING’S ROCHESTER STUDENT THE FORUM ANNOUNCES DEMELZA AS THEIR CHARITY OF THE YEAR The Forum Shopping Centre in Sittingbourne has announced that Demelza Hospice Care for Children has been chosen as its new charity of the year for 2017. Sittingbourne is home to Demelza Kent which provides professional, specialist, one-to-one care and support and access to life-enhancing facilities for babies, children and young people up to the age of 19. As part of the 2017 charity partnership, Demelza Kent will be able to use The Forum’s regular events and activities as a platform to raise funds and awareness for their cause. The 2017 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music has gone to School Of Rock, The Musical. Sam Hall, who left King’s Rochester school in 2013, is the children’s musical director and rock coach for this hugely acclaimed new West End show. Sam has been part of the team finding and training three sets of 13 astonishing child actors for the London staging of the show who play instruments live, every night at New London Theatre. Even more astonishing is that Sam is still a student at the Royal College of Music and as well as his theatre commitments, is also the lead singer for indie-rock band TORVA. The Olivier Awards with Mastercard 2017 were the biggest yet, as they made their debut at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 9th April. Located on Barden Road on the former site of Mojo's Bar, The Clock House opened its doors following a quarter million pound refurbishment. Spearheaded by proprietor Daniel Ward, who already runs The Ivy House in Tonbridge, The Clock House will be his second enterprise in the town. “We’re really excited to be opening The Clock House. A huge amount of time and money has been invested into the venue, the menu and the team and we can’t wait to start welcoming guests. As a town, Tonbridge’s food and drink offering is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to be adding a major player into the mix,” commented Ward. 160 Katherine Cordrey, community fundraiser for Demelza, commented: “Having a community organisation such as The Forum support our hospice makes a real difference to us. It currently costs over £10.5 million a year to maintain our current service across East Sussex, Kent and South East London but we know there are many more families in need of our care. “As a charity we are reliant on the generosity of others so we are really looking forward to working with the Sittingbourne community, and the team at The Forum, to raise as much money as possible to enable us to continue providing our vital service for local children and their families in need.”
