WRITE THAT NOVEL! CREATIVE WRITING COURSE // 13 & 24 MAY
Aspiring writers can sign up for a one-day course in novel writing( 13th May is held at Hever Castle and 24th May is held at Juliet’ s, Tunbridge Wells) run by acclaimed Kent author, Mark Oldfield. Designed for anyone wanting to write quality fiction, the day covers a variety of techniques and approaches to help authors plan storylines, write effective synopses and edit work for submission to agents and publishers. Participants also study ways of building suspense and tension, creating credible characters and writing realistic dialogue. The course is run by Dr Mark Oldfield, whose critically acclaimed novel, The Sentinel, first in his Vengeance of Memory trilogy, received rave reviews from the national press including The Guardian and the Daily Mail.

ARTISTS AT WORK WEEKEND // 20-21 MAY
Come along to Artspring Gallery, Tonbridge for an exciting weekend of watching painters, jewellers and a potter at work – and even have a go yourself. On Saturday you can watch a pottery throw down as well as a goldsmith making jewellery. Sunday is‘ have a go’ day when you can try making some jewellery, take part in a printmaking workshop and watch a painter at work. This will be a fantastic weekend of art and craft suitable for all the family. There will also be live music from students at Musicstation throughout the weekend.

AN EVENING WITH ALISON WEIR // 18 MAY
Come and hear bestselling author Alison Weir talking about the second in her series of novels about the six wives of King Henry VIII – Anne Boleyn: A King’ s Obsession – on 18 May, the eve of the anniversary of her execution. The Long Gallery of Hever Castle, Anne Boleyn’ s childhood home, is the perfect setting for Alison to talk about the tumultuous tale of the second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I who became Queen for just 1,000 days. The evening begins with a drinks reception in the castle’ s Inner Hall and the chance to be one of the first to purchase a copy of Alison Weir’ s new novel. Guests then move to the Long Galley where Alison will talk about the life of Anne Boleyn, and the series of events that would change the course of Britain’ s history, monarchy and religion.
