NEW ART: TURNER CONTEMPORARY, MARGATE
If 2017 is all about getting to know more about art and experiencing culture, then Thanet is the perfect place to be. Turner Contemporary in Margate is an impressive and exciting art gallery – it’ s free to enter( but you can leave a donation) and there is always something to marvel at.
In January 2017, that something is a new exhibition entitled Entangled: Threads and Making. It runs from 28th January until 7th May, and is all about how materials and creation have come together throughout history to bring something new and fascinating into the world. The exhibition consists of sculpture, installation, tapestry, textiles and jewellery from the 20th century to the present day. Over 40 international female artists have come together to present Entangled; they explore, examine and expand on the possibilities that techniques which are usually seen as fairly prosaic( knitting, embroidery, sewing, even carving in wood) can become great works of art. Within the pieces themselves the drama is created by the use of unusual materials such as plants, clothing, hair and bird quills.
