THIS SPRING, FOLKESTONE QUARTERHOUSE PRESENTS A NEW AFTER SCHOOL ARTS AND PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG PEOPLE, NEON AFTER SCHOOL! WITH SESSIONS FOR AGES 5 – 16, NEON AFTER SCHOOL WILL EXPLORE A VARIETY OF ART FORMS, TECHNIQUES AND STYLES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS. ALL ASPECTS OF PERFORMANCE WILL BE ADDRESSED, INCLUDING THEATRE, DANCE, ART, MUSIC AND THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY.
Over each 10-week term, participants will explore, create and develop original work from scratch around a given theme, culminating in a performance at the end of each term that showcases the techniques and skills learned by the group.
Neon After School follows the success of Quarterhouse’ s Neon Summer School, which took place in August 2016. Folkestone Quarterhouse are delighted to be able to expand the Neon programme, creating a regular after school club that will help young creatives build confidence, learn new techniques and embrace their creativity. By creating and performing new work in a professional environment, Neon is also the perfect opportunity for young people to explore their interests in a working theatre!
Neon’ s in-house practitioners have a wealth of experience to share with Neon initiates. Performance and dance teacher James
Middleton and JimJam Arts’ Sadie Hurley( of Folkestone Living Advent Calendar) will lead each 10-week term. In addition, artists working in spoken word, visual arts, puppetry, costume, special effects and digital arts will contribute to sessions, offering young people a chance to develop their imagination, learn new skills and have fun!
Neon After School is perfect for young people with energy, determination and a flair for creativity; no previous performance experience is required.
“ Neon was great. It was full of exciting games, new friends and a production at the end which blew our parents away.”-Louis, Age 12( Neon Summer School 2016)
