Commissioned in association with Mac Birmingham and Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival with support from Sage Gateshead. Be transported by songs, adventure and the stories of Kalevala – Finland’ s national epic and cultural treasure. Travel to the extremes of the Finnish landscape – the vast forests and lakes, the harshness of winter, the intoxicating summers. Experience authentic creation myths, tales of Finland’ s epic heroes and journey with them to the dark river of the underworld. Leading UK storyteller Nick Hennessey and three virtuoso Finnish musicians make these 2,000- year-old traditional stories come alive with a touch of offbeat fun, enchantment and music that moves between dancing flutes, intoxicating rhythms and hauntingly beautiful sung melodies.
