Whitney – Queen Of The Night // 26 Aug
Time & Time Again // 18-21 Aug
Kent Rep’ s 2016 Hever production is vintage Ayckbourn and surely one of his funniest. The action centres around ex-teacher Leonard, who despises the suburban lifestyle of his sister and boorish brother-in-law with whom he has lived since he was locked out by his wife. Another of Leonard’ s problems is that he finds it difficult to communicate with so called‘ normal’’ people. As a result, poetry quoting Leonard prefers to chat to Bernard, the garden gnome!
When brother-in-law Graham brings home his employee, sports-mad Peter, and his attractive fiancée, Joan, who has attracted Graham’ s own lecherous interest, it is‘ odd-ball’ Leonard to whom she takes a fancy. From that point onwards, there ensues a hilarious sequence of incidents that embrace all sorts of sporting and leisure activity such as cricket, football – even draughts. And not forgetting Leonard’ s latest wheeze – Pond Dancing!
