which can either be enjoyed al fresco on the
decking or ensconced on the comfortable sofas
inside, nightfall brings with it the sound of
homegrown musicians, as acoustic singers and
bands play an eclectic mix of jazz, blues, folk
and soul notes.
Aside from this, there is the hotel’s central social
hotspot, the Martello Bar, which as well as serving
lunches is home to that Great British tradition:
afternoon tea. Having noted a chocolate-based
offering, this is now next on my wishlist when I
return…
The hotel also offers comprehensive meetings
and conference facilities, catering for up to 200
delegates across six dedicated rooms, some of
which offer that English Channel vista; a par 68
links, nine-hole golf course; and a relaxing health
club and spa complex, complete with pool,
sauna, gym and therapy rooms offering a range
of treatments and spa package options.
However, in my opinion the jewel in the Imperial’s
crown is the grand Imperial Ballroom. Fresh from
its 2014 refurbishment and reopening, the Imperial
Ballroom beautifully dominates the sea-facing
facade. Gone (thankfully) is the 1970's extension
and in its place a modern, yet architecturally
sympathetic new entrance, framed by
symmetrical landscaping, stunning floor-to-ceiling
windows and doors and a new terrace area,
leading the way to the decadent ballroom beyond.

Chandeliers, ornate mirrors, and stylish décor
combine with a new state-of-the-art sound and
lighting system and dance floor to offer the perfect
setting for events, parties and weddings (which
remarkably are offered from as little as £3,000!).
And having experienced firsthand the opulent
surroundings, top class service, attention to detail
and, of course (for writing purposes only), road
tested that new dance floor at insideKENT’s fifth
birthday bash, I can highly recommend the
ballroom for events and celebrations alike.
Numerous party guests also commented on its
beautiful setting, views and ambience – praise
indeed from the crème de la crème of all things
Kent.
With the refurbishment programme still in full
swing it remains to be seen just which
improvements are next on the horizon, but the
future is definitely promising for Hythe Imperial
Hotel. Now, about that chocolate afternoon tea…
