welcome
I don't want to alarm anybody, but it's May. Yes, May! I don't know where
the time has gone or how this has happened; all I know is that we're five
months in and summer 2015 is just around the corner. Cue the panic!
Ben Nevis is nearing!
My Ben Nevis climb in aid of
Demelza's 101 challenge is now just
over a month away and that can only
mean one thing: more stair runs, extra
walking miles, and less lazy Sundays.
Just the other day I was 'enlightened'
with the three rules of mountaineering:
"It’s always further than it looks. It's
always taller than it looks. And it's
always harder than it looks."
*Panic face*
As the longer days, lighter evenings and, dare I say it, warmer climes take
hold, it's time to get off that sofa, ditch the residual winter layers and start
planning. And what better excuse for a little spring fun than two bank
holidays? Read up on some of Kent's best events over on page 49, and
for the festivalgoers amongst us, don't miss our annual round up over on
page 57.
This month, we're also focussing on our county's thriving art scene – and
with good reason. From a packed gallery directory (p34) to shopping in
the Creative Quarter (p37); Folkestone Artworks (p38); Dreamland's
relaunch (p24); and those talented residents who have transformed their
art into business (p143), there's a whole lot to celebrate. But it doesn't
stop there. Unlimited to gallery walls and exhibitions, the essence of art
traverses into our homes (p116), our food (p66), and even the great
outdoors (p42).

Feeling inspired? I certainly am; and with that, I'm off to plan a fabulous –
